Atlantic City, New Jersey - January 14, 2002   Today, at the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration (AHR) Exposition, Anacon Systems introduced the PDB3 Accelerator Kit for custom design and development of VFDs, specifically for single-phase induction motors. The PDB3 Accelerator Kit [part number - PDB3KIT] offers design engineers a compact module containing proprietary circuitry and firmware for "design-it yourself" single-phase controls. At their facilities, engineers will be able to easily integrate variable speed into their product. Applications include air handling, fan and blower control, as well as small pumps in the residential and commercial Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) sector.

PDB3 (Power Drive Block 3) is an extension of Anacon's popular DigiDrive product family.

PDB3 is the core of a single-phase AC motor control design. With the addition of a few external components and appropriate heatsink, a complete drive solution is easily achieved. PDB3 accommodates a wide range of voltages and supply output currents up to 6.5 Amps. Its small footprint (3.9" x 1.5" x 1.57"), robust thermal design and flexible interfaces, will make it easy for engineers to create their own customized VFD (Variable Frequency Drive). During development and for field adjustment, if desired, PDB3 can be configured and monitored using Anacon Systems' DashDrive 2.0 software, compatible with WindowsTM95, 98, Me, 2000 and XP.

The DigiDrive "PDB3 Design Accelerator Kit "contains:

  • 2 - PDB3 modules - capable of 6.5 Amps output with wide range of input voltages
  • 1 - Power Interface Board - combines with PDB3 to complete an evaluation platform
  • 1 - RFI Power Line Filter - 10 Amp rated power line filter to reduce input line noise.
  • 1 - EMC filter - compliant to EN50081-1 and EN50081-2
  • 1 - Heatsink - pre-drilled to accommodate PDB3 and the Power Interface Board
  • 1 - Deluxe Control Potentiometer - for manual speed adjustment of the evaluation drive
  • 1 - Configuration Kit - contains an adapter box, cables and DashDrive 2.0 software
  • 1 - Design Manual - a full description of the PDB3 module, design criteria, support tools and step-by-step instructions to assist an engineer with "design-it-yourself" capability.
